Samurai are always portrayed as male, but this is historically incorrect, as there were the so-called Onna-bugeisha, who were female samurai.

As a rule, this blog covers topics relating to early Japan, the samurai and swordsmanship. But for the sake of completeness, we would also like to present some facts about Japan today.

In ancient Japan, there was a time when people were not allowed to leave the country and no foreigners were allowed to enter Japan.
But this is exactly what made some people curious. The Mongols in particular suspected gold and precious stones in Japan.

It is not a heroic story, because the samurai were something like the police of most countries today, who are no longer there to protect the citizens, but rather to enforce the anti-civil laws of the rulers and plunder the people.

Hundreds of years ago, ninjas were very active and very real in feudal Japan. Far from being good people, the ninjas were something of a mercenary group, carrying out assassinations and espionage for the highest bidder.
